Last week the substitute passed out yellow Federal Surveys. I do not think she saw that the yellow papers already had the student’s name printed on them, and she passed them out randomly. If you got one that was not your child’s please return it so that I can give it to the correct family. I resent some home today that I had gotten back. Once you get yours, please return it to me ASAP! Thanks and sorry for the confusion!
Congratulations to Joseph, Julia and Aiyanna! Way to use your stamina and make growth! We are proud of you!
Red Ribbon Week
This week is Red Ribbon Week and it is a fun week at Camarena. Click on the flyer to see each day’s spirit wear! PLEASE have kids wear RED on Wednesday, even though we are going to the Pumpkin Patch. Each year the students and staff take a school picture where we stand in the shape of a ribbon, with everybody wearing red. We will be taking this picture right away in the morning, before we even take our backpacks to class and get ready for the field trip. Students can change into a new shirt if you’d rather have them wear something more festive for the field trip! Red Ribbon Week
The Costume Parade will take place on Friday 10/27 on the blacktop first thing in the morning, rather than Halloween day. Please check the Camarena Elementary blog for more information on this in the upcoming week. Parents are welcome to watch the parade in the morning. Students will then change out of their costumes for the remainder of the day! If you signed up to bring in a Halloween goody bag item, send it in by Friday. We will do goody bags on October 31st. *I will be out of town for my cousins wedding; please take a lot of pictures to share. You can also upload on our Shutterfly account.
Oma’s Pumpkin Patch
We will be going to the Pumpkin Patch right at 9:00 a.m. If you have not turned in your child’s permission slip and money, please do so asap! If you do not turn in your permission slip, your child will have to remain at school in another teacher’s classroom for the day. Also, be sure to pack your child’s lunch that day to ensure they get a full, healthy meal. Make sure to not pack it in a lunchbox or with any tupperware. We will want to have items we can throw away, so we are not carrying lunch boxes around all day. If you are chaperoning, you are welcome to join us in the morning and help make sure all kids are present, have lunches, and to get some more information from me such as directions, and who will be in your group. Feel free to follow the bus or just meet us there. We will return to school around 2:00 with regular dismissal at 2:30. Please check the weather, and dress your child accordingly and pack lots of water for them to drink; it looks like it is going to be a HOT one!
We have begun to study plants, and if anyone would like to donate a small sturdy potted plant with saucer to our classroom, we would greatly appreciate it! We will be comparing and contrasting different kinds of plants as well as parts, life cycle, needs, etc.
Homework will still be due on Friday. I will have the substitute take homework out and put in the new homework. I will have the substitute keep the phonics books aside (if your child has one) and I will switch it out on the Monday that I return.
Next week is Red Ribbon Week and it is a fun week at Camarena. Click on the flyer to see each day’s spirit wear! Red Ribbon Week
*I will not be here for the Costume Parade. This will take place on Friday 10/27 rather than Halloween day. Please check the Camarena Elementary blog for more information on this in the upcoming week. Parents are welcome to watch the parade in the morning. Students will then change out of their costumes for the remainder of the day!
Hi Families! We are just two days shy of our 50th day of school this year. We have had a lot of fun and have also used a lot of supplies. We are looking to restock a few items in our classroom and would greatly appreciate any help!
- Baby Wipes
- Treasure box items (Dollar Tree or Dollar Spot items, items that your children are no longer using in your household)
- Ziploc bags with zippers (both gallon size and sandwich size)
- Wooden clothespins
A belated congratulations to some of our newest sound experts! These fine students learned all of their sounds before Fall Break. A big WOO HOO for them! Congratulations to Chase, Alexis, Blakely and Sunee!
We are doing a GREAT job at learning our sight words in Kindergarten! I have to give a round of applause to the families for taking the time at home to use the flashcards in a consistent matter. It really shows! By the end of the year, your child will be taught the first 100 words. After Fall Conferences, many children showed that they knew the 19 words plus more. I am going to start testing your child weekly on sight words and it will help give you a better understanding on what words to practice. There will be 10 lists, each with 10 words. If they get to list 10 before the end of the year, they will then be tested on the same lists, but spelling the words rather than reading them!
Look at the picture below. Mrs. Demchuk was tested and knew all 10 words on list 1. You can tell she knows the words because they have a check mark next to them. On list 2 she did not know 3 of the words. Those words have a circle around them. The list will get sent home and the circled words will be the ones to practice at home for the week. This list can be kept at home. The following week, Mrs. Demchuk would be retested on list 2, until she can read all 10 correctly. If she does, she will be tested on list 3 and so forth.
My goal is to try to test at least 5 students a day, but to get all kids tested at least once during the week. Your child might not always be tested on the same day, it will depend on my availability and whether we have interference’s such as a field trip or assembly. Some children (6) brought home lists today, but most did not. Just be on the lookout for these in your child’s blue folder. Let me know if you have an questions! Thanks!!!
Thank you so much for the collective effort to get our Box Top program up and running again this year. We are up to $826. Will will begin a new contest starting now and continuing until December 8th.
An easy tool to help with this is to download the Box Top app. It’s easy to use. For example, simply buying 5 Box Tops items at Wal-Mart and scanning your receipt on the app will earn our school $5.00. I will also always keep recording sheets hanging on the classroom door. Remember, that each collection sheet will get you a raffle ticket for a chance to win a $25 gift card of your choice!
